Fall is here and I thought it would be best to give you a few tips on how to emotionally adjust to the environmental changes around us which does effect us more than we’d like to admit.

If lately you’ve been feeling down, tired, depressed, and unmotivated, you are NOT alone and this only indicates that you are feeling the “Fall/Winter symptoms” which stems from slowing down from a more active lifestyle, shortage of vitamin D, and shorter, colder, and darker days.

“Getting back on the horse” simply means getting back to healthy eating, exercising, picking up new activities pertaining to gloomier seasons and pretty much adjusting your mood to the current weather conditions.

If you can manage the 7 items listed below, all other details will fall more naturally and easily into place and you’ll be back on the saddle in no time.

Ok here we go:

1.  Add more light in the morning (i.e. turn on the lights as soon as you wake up), start your day with upbeat music while preparing your breakfast or lunch, and set a positive intention for your day.

2. Sign up for an exercise class (2 – 4 times a week) either before or after work and turn it into a routine. It only take 3 weeks to change a habit for the rest of your life!

3. Set up coffee/tea, lunch or dinner dates with your friends and loved ones to get you out of the house. You need a reason to get out in the fresh air even for a short period. No “potato-couching” in front of the TV! Also connecting with your social network online doesn’t count either!

4. Wear more colourful clothing or add a few colourful items to your dark winter clothing. Get creative!

5. Set a few goals on your calendar, big or small, and begin working towards them.

6. Watch your sugar and alcohol instate during the upcoming holiday season. You’ll thank yourself later on.

7. And last but not least, “Winterize” your home by getting into the cozy winter season, fireplaces, comfy blankets, hot teas, warm socks, etc. Embrace the new.

Love each season for what it brings to your life and keep an eye out for nature’s beautiful colours surrounding you.

Keep up with the times will only help you practice and enjoy staying present even more.
